3 Ways to Create a Positive Ripple With Your Words

“A picture can tell a thousand words, but a few words can change it’s story.” ~ Sebastyne Young

Words are powerful medicine. They have the power to awaken, encourage and even inspire you to do things beyond your capacity.

Words create a ripple effect that can touch someone’s life and change them. Remember a time when you were the recipient of  kind words. It could have been a teacher that singled you out for a special project, or maybe recognition at work for a job well done.

The converse is also true. Think of moments when you indulged in criticism or found yourself complaining incessantly about something? What happened to your energy? Did you find that your outlook took a downward spiral?

Your energy is powerful and your words embody energy. Whether you choose to go positive or negative, you will find your energy expands in that direction. Energy flows where focus goes.

Here's how you can create a positive ripple with your words:

1. Love what is. Acknowledge the current circumstances, but don't be attached to them. It's not a powerful use of your resources to complain about your circumstances, whether it's your body, health, finances, relationship, etc. Start off by honoring what is. And ‘what is' is a dynamic experience. It is always changing. That's the nature of the playground. There's no sense in resisting the passage of time, the family you were born into or the choices that you've made. The good news is that none of those things define you and you CAN choose again.

2. Focus on what's good. Ever notice those folks that when asked, “How are you?” they go off like a runaway train on everything that's wrong? Next time ask, “What's new and good?” You can follow the same guidance. The truth is that there are probably more good things going on in your world, than bad things. It's your focus that determines the default mode in your world, positive or negative. You can choose to make it a good one.

3. Bless everything. The good stuff and the not so good stuff. Utter blessings, and express your appreciation to everything and everyone you encounter. Write birthday blessings, instead of getting a canned birthday card. Blessing connects you to the sacredness in everything. By blessing, you are blessed.

Whether it's a prayer, a mantra or a joy filled “Hello!”, words consecrate Life.  Choose words that expand, enlighten and energize you and those around you. You add to the hum of the world when you use the power of your words for love and for light.

  • I’m honored you’ve chosen to use my words, ‘add to the hum of the world’, Adela.
It keeps me in line with who I am and why I’m here 🙂

Here I am a wordsmyth, yet at times I find myself at a loss for words. Usually, it’s around something highly emotional, like the loss of a loved one. That’s always a good time to go “inside,” focus on what’s good, and remember the beautiful, joyful memories of that person (or pet).

With regard to blessing everything, even the smallest expression of gratitude can have a big impact. A simple “thank you” goes a long way – especially when accompanied by a smile. Thanks.

As I was writing this post, my wordsmith friends were like bubbles popping into my consciousness – you were among them, Debra. It’s the energy of the words that makes a difference, which is why a simple smile can often convey what words cannot. Thanks for checking in, my friend.
